Education

Ho-Chunk, Inc. knows the value of a solid and progressive education. It is the foundation of any success for a Tribal community and for a Tribal corporation. It is a priority for the Winnebago Tribe. Not only does it benefit a community in general, but in Ho-Chunk Inc.’s case, it is critical to qualify Tribal members for jobs with the company. Due to its importance, Ho-Chunk, Inc. has established several initiatives for both short and long term opportunity.

Jobs

Ho-Chunk, Inc. works very hard to identify potential candidates and to provide them with solid support and training once hired. That is why the company has such a strong commitment to education in order to expose Tribal members to all levels of higher education and skill sets.

Ho-Chunk, Inc. employs over 1,700 workers, with 54% of on reservation employees being Native American. Since 1989, the median household income on the reservation has increased 78%.

Housing

The Winnebago Reservation lacks affordable housing for Tribal members and those who could afford a monthly house payment have been forced to live elsewhere. Others do not have the funds to purchase a home because of the lack of down payment available to them. Ho-Chunk, Inc. and the Winnebago Tribe have worked together to develop a Housing Down Payment Assistance Program that provides a significant portion of a standard down payment for a new homeowner. The homeowner does go through a special education course and must meet other criteria to qualify.
