We congratulate Mary on her recent retirement

Sioux City just wouldn’t be Sioux City without the Ho-Chunk Centre, and it’s hard to imagine the Ho-Chunk Centre without Mary Stock.

Mary helped manage the 10-story iconic glass office building – a landmark on the Sioux City skyline – for 37 of its 39-year existence.

We congratulate Mary on her recent retirement!

Ho-Chunk, Inc. purchased and renamed the building in 2012, which was originally constructed in 1983 as the headquarters for fertilizer giant Terra Industries.

The building continues to evolve through major renovations, attracting a vibrant mix of tenants and community functions.

One thing has remained constant: Mary’s dedication to customer service and stewardship of the building.

A gathering was recently held at the Ho-Chunk Centre Atrium to celebrate her tenure as Commercial Property Manager for Ho-Chunk, Inc.

1️⃣ What was your title/role with Ho-Chunk, Inc., and what did it involve?

I was the Commercial Property Manager for Ho-Chunk Centre, responsible for the day-to-day operational activities of a commercial facility. The scope ranged from customer service to both tenants and vendors, administrative and financial reporting, lease negotiations and lease preparation.

2️⃣ How did you originally start working there when it was the Terra Centre?

In September 1985, I accepted a 4-week temp assignment to assist the Building Manager with the 1986 Budget for Terra Real Estate, the division of Terra that managed the facility. I worked as a temp for the next 6 months until a full-time position was created for me.

3️⃣ What did you enjoy most about the work you’ve done with Ho-Chunk, Inc.?

My goal has always been to provide Ho-Chunk Centre tenants the best environment for them to operate their businesses, including Class A office space in downtown Sioux City. Of course, forming lasting relationships with tenants was a bonus!

4️⃣ What was one of your favorite projects with Ho-Chunk, Inc., and why?

Ho-Chunk Centre has offered the use of the facility for various community events such as the annual Festival of Trees and the Little Yellow Dog Auction, as well as the Sioux City Community School District’s annual all-school art show (using the entire 4th floor when it wasn’t leased). I sincerely enjoyed working with organizations and felt much pride in the facility and amenities we provided. Also, any time I moved in a new tenant, whether into an existing office or a renovated suite, was a satisfying “project”.

5️⃣ What do you like to do outside of work?

I currently serve on the Advisory Council for Connections Area Agency on Aging and served for several years on the City of Sioux City Parking Advisory Board. I enjoy listening to various genre of music as well as participating in vocal and bell choirs at my church and in the community. I also enjoy NASCAR races!
